About Me

I was a research assistant at the Center of Linear and Combinatorial Structures (CELC - Centro de Estruturas Lineares e Combinatórias) of the Faculty of Sciences at the University of Lisbon, Portugal. This research position was funded by the Ciência 2008 program of the Portuguese Science and Technology Foundation (FCT - Fundação para a Ciência e a Tecnologia).

I was previously a postdoctoral research fellow at the Department of Mathematics of Instituto Superior Técnico, Lisbon, Portugal, associated with the Center for Mathematical Analysis, Geometry, and Dynamical Systems, and supported by the project POCTI / FEDER and a FCT grant.

I received my PhD degree from the Mathematics Department at the University of California at Santa Cruz, USA, in December 2004. My supervisor was Jonathan Weitsman.

Here is my CV.

  • Co-organizer of the regular CELC seminar, jointly with Maria M. Torres (July 2011 -  ).
  • Co-organizer of the Third Combinatorics Day, jointly with Fátima Rodrigues and Maria M. Torres (March 2, 2013).
  • Jury member of Marco António de Sousa e Silva dos Santos Mendes' doctoral mathematics seminar, jointly with Orlando Neto and Luis Sanchez (July 26, 2012).

  • Mentor of Rafael Monteiro, a third year undergraduate math student, under the program Novos Talentos em Matemática 2012-2013, funded by the Calouste Gulbenkian foundation (December 2012 - August 2013).

Other Areas of Interest and Skills

I use LaTeX for writing papers, slides and posters, and PSTricks for drawings. I try to keep informed about useful latex packages, as well as various latex editors. Besides this, I am an amateur web designer. I write HTML and CSS codes with ease. I feel confortable using Adobe Dreamweaver CS5. Also, I know JavaScript at elementary level and I am an enthusiastic user of MathJax (a joint project of the American Mathematical Society, Design Science, Inc., and the Society for Industrial and Applied Mathematics) and of Google Apps (a set of web applications developed by Google).

Languages

Spanish, English and Portuguese. I know Italian at an intermediate level and basic French (for reading).
