First degree in Physics (Optics and Electronics), University of Porto; "seminar work" "Holographic Optic Elements Aberration Correction with an Intermediate Computer Generated Hologram", under the Erasmus Programme at the Vrije Universiteit Brussel, Belgium). Master in Optoelectronics and Lasers, University of Porto, thesis "Wavelength division multiplexing integrated optical devices". Ph.D. in Physics (Microelectronics and Optoelectronics), University of Porto in co-supervision with the University of Glasgow; thesis "Optoelectronic properties of resonant tunneling diodes".
